Smorgasbord Dinner – Simple Gatherings with Friends

The hardest part of planning these Simple Gatherings is getting the date on the calendar! But make it a priority. Even on a work-night these simple gatherings are quick, minimal cleanup and will feed your soul (as well as your belly).

What is a Smorgasbord?!

A Smorgasbord is a type of Scandinavian meal. Originating in Sweden, served buffet-style with multiple hot and cold dishes of various foods on a table.

Think of it like all the best appetizers as the main course. A grab and eat as you please type of casual meal. More time for conversations and catching up!

Why is it so easy?

Have each person that comes do a proverbial clean out of their fridge and bring it over for dinner! When we did this at a friend’s house for a chick flick movie night (we watched Morning Glory and it was amazing). I had recently bought buffalo chicken dip, and had on hand hummus. Between all of us we had plenty of veggies. Another friend brought chips, salsa and guac and someone else brought another dip.

This is a great way to feed a few friends, everyone can contribute and is the perfect simple gathering. More ideas include spinach artichoke dip, any and all trader joes pre-made appetizers. I especially am a fan of taquitos from the freezer section of the grocery store heated up and make perfect party food. Always a rainbow of veggies, always hummus, as long as you cover the food groups you have a great gathering!

Don’t forget your friendship postcards to thank your friend for having you over!
